三年级学子Tim的实验“哪种冰最坚固?(Which Ice is Strongest?)”夺得第一名,同样来自三年级的Jeremy获得第二名,他通过“哪种液体能让鸡蛋上浮?(Which Kind of Liquid Can Make an Egg Float?)”

Our PYP students impressed the judges with hands-on investigations and thoughtful questions. Congratulations to our 1st place winner from Grade 3, Tim, with the exciting experiment “Which Ice is Strongest?”. In 2nd place, Grade 3 student Jeremy explored density with “Which Kind of Liquid Can Make an Egg Float?”, while 3rd place went to Grade 5 students Jan, Zoe, Elisa, Michael, and Noah for their creative engineering in “Submarine” design.

Awarded Projects – 6's

Among the many standout projects that received a 6 was MYP3.1 Aina’s Automatic Irrigation System.  Have you ever wanted to not have to water your plants all the time?  Aina was able to engineer a sprinkler that would respond to the levels of moisture in the soil. Let’s hear it for time saving technology!

Another standout was MYP4 Cici’s, Wendy’s, Alicia’s, and Reetta’s Floating Maglev Train. Inspired by watching videos of magnetic trains zooming across the landscape this team was able to engineer a facsimile made out of wooden blocks and magnets. It was able to float and to carry payloads! Just like magic- but science!  Another standout was MYP5 Vindy’s and Tina’s Best Pigment Materials. Vindy is a very good artist and her team sought to see whether obsidian, Blue Enstatite or Blue Calcite would produce the best result for artistic endeavors. After much (much!) grinding and mashing with the mortar and pestle, they determined that Blue Calcite was the winner! The rest of the outstanding projects that received 6’s are as follows:

Awarded Projects – 7's

DSC_4068.jpg

Among the many standout projects that received a 7 was MYP2’s Drinks and Tooth Health by Steve, Jason, Will, Steven.  Most students love to drink Cola and other sugary drinks. However, this team sought to determine which drink, Coke, Pepsi, or orange juice would pose the most damage to unsuspecting enamel! Using eggs shells as a substitute for teeth the team determined that Coke was actually the most detrimental drink of the three.  Don’t forget to brush and floss!

Another standout was MYP3.1’s Crunchy Fried Chicken by Juto, Afanda, and Peter, This team wanted to find out which combination of ingredients would make the crunchiest fried chicken. After many grueling experiments and testing it was determined that the old standby of flour and water and not a toast coating produced the best results. Another standout was MYP3.2’s Sanitizer Effectiveness by Happy, Dylan and Angela. This team wanted to know if Blue Moon or Safeguard antibacterial was the most effective. After many hand-washings and microscope viewings it was determined that Blue Moon killed the most bacteria- take that Kingdom Prokaryote!

Finally we have MYP4’s Tone and Dog Commands by Olivia and Henry. These two did a fantastic investigation into how tones affect our canine friends. They determined that a coaxing voice does indeed produce the best results. The rest of the outstanding projects that received 7’s are as follows:
