OPEN HOUSE
伴着清朗日光与嘹亮歌声，本周二至周四，2018-2019学年福州西湖国际学校「开放日」正式拉开了序幕！早有研究表明，家长多多参与孩子的学习，能够促使孩子在学业及社交上表现得更好。因而可以说，「开放日」这一活动对学校、家长及学生三方，都有相当积极的意义。
This week, from Tuesday, September 18th to Thursday, September 20th, Fuzhou Lakeside International School hosted its annual Open House, an event in which parents are invited to come and sit in on classes while they are being taught. Studies have shown that students whose parents are actively involved in their education perform better at school, both academically and socially.
FLIS为到校的家长们准备了香浓提神的咖啡，签到后，家长们参加了每个部门特设的欢迎说明会。副校长Ashim女士、小学及幼儿园主管Jeanne女士等均到场对家长们表示欢迎，本学年FLIS英语强化部外方主任Michael老师、第二课堂CAASEL中心外方主任Gerald老师也一一亮相。欢迎会上，家长们还收获了不少针对孩子学习的建议：如在家营造积极的氛围、检查孩子的作业，为他们制定良好的作息时间等等。营养膳食在孩子的成长过程中当然也极其重要。幼儿园特别邀请了自本学期开始为小朋友们搭配营养膳食的FLIS营养顾问到场，为大家科普平衡膳食的重要性。之后是「开放日」的重头戏，家长们前往自己孩子所在的教室进行观摩。外教们上课的风格各异，有些轻松活泼，有些严谨深刻。认真倾听后，一些家长们还于午餐时分来到食堂，了解了FLIS的伙食供应情况。
Parents were greeted at the door with the smell of freshly brewed coffee. After checking in, parents attended a special orientation session. Vice Principal Ms. Ashim Pherim, and Primary and ECE Director Ms. Jeanne Sobo were present to welcome the parents. Their speech included an introduction of the FLIS program and some suggestions about students' studying habits when they are at home. Later, ELL Director Mr. Michael and CAASEL, the Center for the Arts and Social Emotional Learning, Director Mr. Gerald addressed parents. The ECE Department invited a dietary consultant, who has been preparing nutritious meals for children since the beginning of this semester, to speak about the importance of balanced meals for everyone. Then it was time for the highlight of the Open House and parents visited their children's classrooms to observe a class. Different foreign teachers have different styles; some are relaxed and lively, other are serious and profound. Finally, parents had the opportunity to come to the cafeteria during lunchtime to experience what lunch is like here at FLIS.
正如副校长Ashim女士所说，家长的参与对孩子的学习来说十分重要。这能让孩子们感觉自己受到了关注，明白在校学习并不仅仅是自己的事情、其实身边的同学、老师还有自己的父母都是支持自己成长的重要资源，更多与父母亲友交流能帮助他们更好的在爱的氛围里了解自己，树立自信，更有动力，从而积极面对学业。未来的日子里，我们也期待看到您多多参与的身影！感谢您的参加:)
As FLIS Vice Principal Ms. Ashim Pherim advised, parental involvement is extremely important since it gives students praise and attention. Students realize that schooling isn’t just about them. It’s a collaborative effort between students, teachers, and their parents. It also improves a student’s mental health. It encourages communication between children and their parents which builds self-esteem and confidence, helping them to interact better with their peers, and develop social skills.
