中秋节在华人世界里向来是极为重要的传统节日，既逢月圆之夜，也是丰收之时，更是一家团聚的日子。福州西湖国际学校于本周举行种种活动提前庆祝了这一节日，也对学子揭示了佳节中蕴含的文化、习俗、智慧与祝福。

The Mid-Autumn Festival has always been a very important traditional festival in the Chinese world, celebrated on the night of the full moon, at the time of the harvest, and as a day of family reunion. This week, Fuzhou Lakeside International School held a variety of activities to celebrate this festival in advance, and to reveal to students the culture, customs, wisdom and blessings contained in traditional festivals.

我们不难发现，大多传统节日都有对应的特定美食，就像感恩节火鸡一般，中秋节当之无愧的美食C位要数月饼。而中式月饼不仅有各种地域流派，还有古法及新式不同做法。诸多月饼之中，你最喜欢哪一款？今年，FLIS学子也聚在一起亲手制作了冰皮月饼并互相分享。

It's not hard to find out that most traditional festivals have a specific cuisine, just like Thanksgiving has turkey, and when it comes to Mid-Autumn Festival, the most famous food associated with it is the mooncake. Chinese mooncakes not only come in various regional styles, but also in traditional and new styles. Which is your favorite mooncake? This year, FLIS students also got together to make mooncakes and share them with each other.

嫦娥、玉兔与圆月是常见的节日元素，了解这些意象背后的民间故事也是中秋活动的一环；说到月亮，你是否想过为何月有阴晴圆缺？MYP学子借机探究了月相变化与阴历阳历的区别，还收到了中文老师精心准备的礼物：每位学子出生当天的月相照片！

Chang'e, the Jade Rabbit and the full moon are common festival elements, and learning about the folk stories behind these elements is also part of the Mid-Autumn Festival activities; when it comes to the moon, have you ever wondered why there is a waxing and waning of the moon? MYP students took the opportunity to explore the phases of the moon and the difference between the lunar and solar calendars.

漆扇是近年流行起来的“中式写意神器”。制作简单，过程有趣，FLIS学子将之与中秋结合，美物赠家人，亦传达了团圆平安的祝愿。

Lacquer fans are a popular Chinese style artifact in recent years. It is simple to make and fun to watch, while FLIS students combined it with the Mid-Autumn Festival to present a beautiful gift to their families and convey their wishes for reunion and peace.

正如法国作家普鲁斯特所言，「往事隐匿在智力范围之外，在智力所不能及的地方，在某个我们根本意想不到的物质对象（对这个物体所激起的反应）之中」。《追忆逝水年华》里，他通过后来在文学史上声名大噪的玛德琳蛋糕串起儿时点点滴滴，支撑起「记忆的巨厦」。或许我们为庆祝节日所做的一切——写下的祝福卡、手作的月饼与团扇、猜出的灯谜、拍摄的纪念照片等等——或许，未来某一日的记忆开关就藏匿在这无意识的某一刻。很多年后长大的孩子会想起那一天，寻常又不寻常，欢声笑语，他们不是和家人、却也正是和亲如家人——因为学校也是一个家庭——的师友一起，分享了这个指向团圆的节日的喜悦、美食与祝福。

As the French writer Proust put it, “the past is hidden outside the realm of our intelligence and beyond its reach, in some material object (in the sensation that this material object would give us) which we do not suspect”. In “In Search of Lost Time, Volume 1: The Way by Swann's”, he strings together bits and pieces of his childhood through the petites madeleines(a traditional shell-like shape small cake from Commercy and Liverdun) that would later become famous in literary history, bearing “the immense edifice of memory”. Perhaps everything we do to celebrate the festival - the blessing cards we write, the mooncakes and fans we make, the lantern riddles we guess, the souvenir photographs we take, and so on – perhaps the memory switch for a certain day in the future may be hidden in one of these unconscious moments. Many years later, grown-up children will recall that day, usual but extraordinary, not with their families but precisely with their families - because school is also a family – to share the joy of a festival that points to reunion, food and blessings.
