福州西湖国际学校于近日举办了年度科学艺术展。这是学校首次将两种类型的展览合一,为了让学子感受到科学与艺术的双重魅力,我们在布展、配乐上也费了不少心思,力图让大家在具有科幻质感的展厅里漫步于画作长廊之中,也通过科学成果展品味学子天马行空的创造力与想象力。
Fuzhou Lakeside International School recently held its annual STEAM and Art Exhibition. This was the first time the school combined two types of exhibitions. In order to let students feel the charm of both science and art, we put a lot of thought into the layout and music, trying to let everyone stroll through the gallery of paintings with a science fiction atmosphere, and also to taste the creativity and imagination of students through the STEAM FAIR.
此次展出的画作为学子近年课堂艺术作品合集,既有反映学子当下最关心议题的“古希腊瓶画”,也有通过蓝晒法制作的作品,学子仿照泥金装饰手抄本风格设计的精美画作也在展陈之列。展馆另一侧,高高挂起的创意广告设计更是吸睛无数;小学学子与幼儿园学子则通过艺术共创在展馆内外留下了自己的精彩手笔。
The paintings on display are a collection of the students' recent classroom artworks, including “ancient Greek pottery style paintings" that reflect the students' most current concerns, as well as works made through the Cyanotype, and student paintings designed in the style of illuminated manuscript. On the other side of the exhibition hall, creative advertising designs hung high up in the pavilion attracted a lot of attention; Primary and ECE students left their own wonderful effort inside and outside the exhibition hall through artistic co-creation.
呼应此次展览,在世界地球日来临之前,我们还邀请到了宜家福州商场可持续发展负责人Alex先生。他向大家介绍了宜家为保护地球生态环境所付出的努力,以及宜家贯彻可持续发展所采取的种种科技手段。
In line with the exhibition, we also invited Mr. Alex, the Sustainability Leader of IKEA Fuzhou store, to speak about Earth Day. He introduced IKEA's efforts to protect the Earth's ecological environment and the various technological means that IKEA has adopted to implement sustainable development.
2023年度FLIS科学实验展是一场耀眼科学知识与海量创意交织的炫目展览。学子的作品一年比一年更优秀。
The 2023 FLIS STEAM FAIR was a dazzling display of sparkling scientific knowledge meshed with copious amounts of creativity. It truly seems that the projects are getting better and better every year.
首先是小学部分,今年小学学子也完成了许多美妙的实验。听着他们讲述如何运用科学手段追寻答案实在是一种享受!每个小组都做得很好。以下是获奖者:
First up we will look at primary. They produced many wonderful experiments this year. It was pleasure listening to them explain the details of how they used the scientific method to pursue the answers to the questions they had. Every group did a fantastic job. Now on to the winners!
获得第一名的实验为五年级Merry, Ziyi, Puiki与Sophia同学设计的睡姿实验。这群小科学家们探索了睡姿与睡眠的关系。第二名由五年级Coco, Will, Helen, Jinghan同学设计的爆米花实验摘得。他们假设空气炸锅做出来的爆米花最好吃,事实如此吗?Gordon, Austin, Devin, 与Cavan同学设计的可乐与曼妥思实验获得了第三名。三年级的Tammy, Noah, George, Elsa与Jan同学的笔穿水袋实验、二年级全班的浇花实验与一年级的左右脑实验获得了荣誉奖。所有小小科学家的展牌都很棒,为他们喝彩!
First place in primary went to DreamPose by Merry, Ziyi, Puiki, Sophia grade 5. These intrepid young scientists investigated the relationship of your sleeping position and your sleep. 2nd place went to Coco, Will, Helen, Jinghan also of grade 5 who investigated which cooking device made the tastiest popcorn. 3rd place went to Gordon, Austin, Devin, and Cavan had fun investigating the relationship between Cola and Mentos. Honorable mentions went to Tammy, Noah, George, Elsa, Jan grade three- Water Pencils, grade 2 (whole class)- How does water travel in a flower from root to petal?, and grade1 (whole class) Brain Use. Just great work from all of these young scientists. Everyone give them a round of applause!

In MYP the scoring was based on the IB scores of 1-8. Every experiment or engineering project that received a 7 or 8 placed. Let’s start with the 8’s. All three of these experiments were incredibly detailed and went above and beyond.

The first 8 went to Kathryn of MYP2 who did a very intriguing experiment on AI. Is it friend or Foe? (ominous music plays). The second 8 went to Yuexi, Sophie, and Sunny of MYP5 who investigated Electrolytes and Sports. The 3rd 8 went to Lucy, Katherine and Carlyn also of MYP5 who experimented on the best ways to revive flowers. All three of these experiments followed the scientific method to a “T”, with tons of data backing them up. Fantastic job!

Overall, 6 experiments achieved a 7. Jenny, from MYP 2, investigated which fluids would make a plant grow better. Giselle and Sally, from MYP 1, did a fun experiment that investigated whether a potato or a lemon produced more of an electric charge. Aina, also from MYP 1, investigated what cleaners work best. Dolphin, Rainbow, Selyn, and Cayden, from MYP 5, did a physics experiment that questioned whether mass affects the velocity of various balls. Hebe and Abby, from MYP 1, looked into which is the best insulator to keep ice from melting. Finally, Wickey and Isabella, from MYP 3, investigated which cut would be the best to keep flowers fresh.

Overall, we were extremely impressed with the quality of work from MYP. Over the years, they have morphed into truly impressive scientists. Everyone, give them a standing ovation! Can’t wait to see what experiments they conduct next year!
