the ASDAN World Scholars Cup
2022年6月11日至12日，21名来自福州西湖国际学校的MYP学子参加了在福建厦门举办的ASDAN世界学者杯区域赛。FLIS学子在此次比赛中表现出色，所有参赛者都捧回了各种奖牌、奖杯，同时所有的队伍也全部成功入围了八月于成都举办的全球半决赛。
On the 11th and 12th of June 2022, 21 students from FLIS MYP competed in the ASDAN World Scholars Cup (WSC) Regional Round in Xiamen, Fujian. This competition was a resounding success, with all individuals taking home medals and trophies, as well as all FLIS teams qualifying for the Semi-Global Round in Chengdu this August.
世界学者杯由四个比赛项目组成，辩论赛、知识挑战、协同创作与学者杯知识竞答。每个项目需要调动学子的不同技能，因此可以说，学者杯重视个人的全面发展及良好的团队合作与协作能力。
The WSC consists of four individual events, namely the Team Debate, Scholar’s Challenge, Collaborative Writing and Scholar’s Bowl. Each of these events requires a different skill set, such that the WSC promotes holistic individual development as well as strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
在辩论赛环节，小学者可以选择从正方或反方的角度，以陈述或辩论的形式参赛。之后，在十五分钟内他们要完成研究、准备论据、团队协作、决定辩论策略等一系列工作。这需要学子迅速做出决定、具备良好的沟通能力及辩证逻辑思维能力，并能够自信面对公众发言。
In the Team Debate, scholars are given a motion (statement to debate) and a side (affirmative or negative). They then have a mere 15 minutes to research, prepare their arguments, and collaborate within their teams to decide how they are going to debate. This event requires quick decision-making, strong communication skills, an ability to think critically and logically, and confidence in public speaking.
知识挑战是一项由个人参加，横跨七个学科的多选题测试。举棋不定时，学子可以选择多个答案，但会招致一些分数损失。每个参赛选手得分相加即为团队得分。学子需于60分钟内回答120道题，他们必须快速行动！
The Scholar’s Challenge is an individual multiple-choice test across 7 subject areas. Students are allowed to choose multiple answers for a single question if they are unsure, but incur a points penalty. The individual scores are then summed together to get a team score. Students only have 60 minutes to answer 120 questions, so must work fast!
在协同创作挑战中，学子要根据一系列提示进行创作。作品体裁不限，可以是漫画、诗歌、随笔或短篇小说，可见该环节十分鼓励学子发挥创意及自主性。
In the Collaborative Writing challenge, the students are given a series of prompts on which to write a piece of work. This encourages creativity and individuality, as the piece of work can be anything from a comic-strip to a poem, an essay to a short story.
最后，学子们要在学者杯知识竞答——一个互动多多，类似游戏竞赛节目的环节——中各显神通，选手通过团队合作解答媒体提示的问题。虽气氛更轻松，过程激动人心，但这项挑战也设置了诸多严谨的学术问题供小学者思考。
Finally, the students compete in the Scholars Bowl, a more interactive, ‘game show’ style quiz in which teams work together to answer questions based on media prompts. Whilst being more relaxed and exciting, this challenge still poses rigorous academic questions for the scholars to ponder.
今年，来自FLIS的小学者在学者杯各项比赛中均发挥出色。虽他们需要同比自己年龄更大的孩子竞技，但他们展示了自己的实力，证明自己是有能力的学者，并带走了不少奖牌与奖杯。FLIS小学者们总共赢得了九十二块奖牌，一个团队奖杯及两个个人奖杯！其中，Joshua Chen同学赢得了初级冠军学者第四名；Paris Lin同学赢得了高级冠军学者第六名；Ziming Zheng, Joshua Chen与Daniel Huang同学组成的队伍赢得了初级冠军队伍第三名；Paris Lin, Elaine Lau与Vicky Huang在协同写作挑战中赢得了第一名；Katherine Chen同学在协同写作挑战中得到了一块金牌；Carlyn Zhu, Sunny Ye与John Chen同学在学者杯知识竞答得到第四名；Bella Xia, Dora Yu与Grace Chen同学在学者杯知识竞答得到第三名；Olivia Xu与Eric Zhong同学分别获得团队辩论金奖及银奖；Milly Huang与Nicky Zhang同学赢得了学者杯知识竞答的金奖；Alice Lai, Christina Zhang与Nicky Zhang同学在团队辩论中赢得金奖，Wayne Liu与Julius Lin同学分获达芬奇金银奖。此外，每支队伍的每个学子都进入了今年八月在成都举办的全球半决赛！他们每个人都应该为自己在学者杯取得的辉煌成绩感到无比骄傲。
The scholars this year from FLIS excelled in every area of the WSC. Despite many of the students competing against students in age-groups above their own, they showed themselves to be capable scholars and took home many medals and trophies. FLIS scholars earned a total of 92 medals across all the challenges they competed in, as well as one team trophy and two individual trophies! Exceptional performances and awards include Joshua Chen receiving 4th Place Junior Champion Scholar; Paris Lin receiving 6th Place Senior Champion Scholar; Ziming Zheng, Joshua Chen and Daniel Huang taking 3rd Place Junior Champion Team; Paris Lin, Elaine Lau and Vicky Huang taking 1st Place in the Collaborative Writing Challenge; Katherine Chen receiving a Gold Medal in the Collaborative Writing Challenge; Carlyn Zhu, Sunny Ye and John Chen receiving 4th Place in the Scholars Bowl; Bella Xia, Dora Yu and Grace Chen receiving 3rd Place in the Scholars Bowl; Olivia Xu and Eric Zhong receiving Gold and Silver awards for the Team Debate respectively; Milly Huang and Nicky Zhang receiving Gold medals in the Scholars Challenge; Alice Lai, Christina Zhang and Nicky Zhang receiving Gold awards in the Team Debate and Wayne Liu and Julius Lin receiving Gold and Silver respectively in the DaVinci award. Furthermore, every scholar from every team qualified for the Semi-Global Round in Chengdu this August! Every student should feel immensely proud of everything they achieved in this WCS Regional Round.
庆祝成就与表现的同时也不要忘了，学子们从这次比赛中带走的，还有宝贵的经历。他们遇到了来自外省、同样才华横溢的小学者，组建队伍、并肩作战解决问题回答问题，参与一项如此有趣且有价值的比赛。我们的选手都表现得很棒！八月，成都全球半决赛见！
Whilst achievement and performance should be celebrated, equally important is the experience that the students take away from this event. Students had the opportunity to meet other gifted scholars from around the province, to work as a team to solve problems and answer questions, and to participate in an engaging, fun and worthwhile event.
