If your child hasn’t told you yet, IPC recently changed units. Now, we are pleased to announce that the 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and 5th grade will all have IPC units about the same thing: Electricity. Grade 2 recently finished learning all about transportation, maps, directions, and travel in this country and other countries. They also learned about the history of transportation, about the Futurist art movement, and they got to make their own models of transportation, using cardboard and glue.
Now 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades are all focused on power. Kids will learn about what the world was like before Electricity, and how people from different countries use electricity. They’ll study static electricity, batteries, and the dangers of electricity. 2nd grade will even get a chance to make their own battery-powered devices.
The 3rd and 5th grades will join in, learning about the history of the light bulb and how electricity is produced in different countries. They'll also explore circuits, appliances, and home electricity-use, including making a light and a buzzer. 5th graders will also learn how to make electrical diagrams, about the relationship of heat and electricity, about some parts of the car, and about the future of producing power.
Just before the Chinese new year, we look forward to displaying all the things we made in a combined Exit Point for all parents to see. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve learned.
