School News

the eighth grade graduation ceremony

It is June already and as the temperature rises, so too does the anticipation of the eighth grade graduation ceremony, held on the last day of school before the summer holidays.

Early in the morning, the lobby of Fuzhou Lakeside International School was full of parents who came to attend the ceremony. Soon, the graduates appeared and made their way on stage wearing their graduation gown and cap. Ms. Nikki, one of our hosts, started the ceremony with a speech, in which she spoke highly of the graduates. Anny Zheng and Anna Xu, representing the graduating class, also spoke fondly about their precious memories at FLIS and how they looked forward to a bright future.

Mr. JL, the English Language Arts teacher, presented an impressive and educational video, produced by the students themselves, which enlivened the atmosphere of the ceremony. He read a poem called Invictus in his speech, encouraging all the graduates to be brave and strong when facing the challenge in their lives.

Remember the stunning performance of Anny Zheng in the talent show? In the graduation ceremony, she sang for us again with the song Something Just Like This.  In the end, the graduates were presented with graduation certificates by Richard Harrington, the Head of Secondary.

The eighth grade graduation marks the end of primary and middle school and acknowledges that students are ready for high school. It is also a time to acknowledge all the hard work that students have done. We look forward to working with our returning students and wish nothing but the best to those that will be moving on. Congratulations!
