刚刚过去的3月是福州西湖国际学校传统阅读月，每逢此时，学子们纷纷开足马力手不释卷，以期在阅读马拉松中获得好成绩。今年，FLIS将阅读马拉松与运动会结合，举办"Battle of the Books"主题活动，通过趣味竞赛形式，既培养学子阅读兴趣与习惯、也锻炼辩证思维、解决问题及团队协作能力。

March is the annual Madness Readathon month at Fuzhou Lakeside International School (FLIS), and usually at this time students work hard to get good results in the Readathon. This year, FLIS combined the Madness Readathon with Sports Day and organized the “Battle of the Books” theme activity, which is a fun competition designed to cultivate students' reading interests and habits, as well as to exercise critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork skills.

过去一个月，学子们徜徉于各学部五花八门的阅读书单之中。从幼儿园到高中部，学部教师们根据学子的阅读能力与兴趣开出多份“看头”十足的书单：既有《西游记》《儒林外史》这样的中文古典名著，亦有诸如Never Let Me Go, Of Mice and Man, Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit这样的英文经典文学作品。深受大众喜爱的儿童文学，如纳尼亚传奇、哈利波特系列也赫然在列。4月3日，"Battle of the Books"打响之际，学子们就靠着阅读所装备的“弹药”，踏上西湖知识问答之路——每条挑战线路上的问题都出自上述书单，学子则以学院或亲子形式组队迎接挑战！

Over the past month, FLIS students have been enjoying a variety of reading lists. From Kindergarten to High School, teachers have created a variety of appealing book lists based on the reading abilities and interests of the students. These selections included such Chinese classics as Journey to the West and The Scholars, as well as English classics such as Never Let Me Go, Of Mice and Man, and Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit. Popular children's literature, such as The Chronicles of Narnia and the Harry Potter series, were also included. On April 3, during the “Battle of the Books”, students participated in the West Lake quiz with the “ammunition” they were equipped with from their reading. The quiz questions were derived from the above book lists, and the students met the challenge in teams of houses or parents and children!

下午的赛程由传统运动项目组成。足球、跳远、手球、拔河、接力赛……FLIS学子在多项户外赛事中尽情展现了强健体魄。颁奖典礼与之后的传统“打校长”水球大战则将这一日的活动推向高潮——整个学年仅此一次机会，过期不候哦！

The afternoon's schedule consisted of traditional sport games. FLIS students showed off their fitness in a number of outdoor events such as soccer, long jump, handball, tug of war and relay races.  The day culminated with an awards ceremony and the traditional “Soak the Principal” - a one-time-only opportunity throughout the school year!
