■ 参观福州机务段｜了解春运的幕后英雄！

1月15日，福州西湖国际学校一年级小朋友探访了中国铁路南昌局集团有限公司福州机务段。这个繁忙而神秘的单位平日里都负责什么工作？FLIS学子又为何来到这里？

On January 15, the first graders from Fuzhou Lakeside International School (FLIS) visited the Fuzhou Locomotive Depot of China Railway Nanchang Group Co.,Ltd. What is this busy and mysterious place responsible for on a regular basis, and why did the FLIS students come here?

原来，一年级学子近来在学习关于职业与社区服务的单元。大千世界里有无数种职业，光鲜亮丽有之、默默无闻有之，不要小瞧任何一份工作——正是每个人各司其职、做好了自己的工作，我们的社区才能日复一日正常运转。或许你也曾对那些令我们的环境变得更安全、在背后默默托举大家的职业感到好奇？的确，那些堪称“社区帮手”的职业是不可或缺的，而了解他们的贡献、心怀感恩，也有助于加深每个人与周围环境的联系。

As it turns out, the first graders have recently been studying a unit on careers and community service. There are countless careers in the world, both glamorous and obscure, but don't underestimate any of them - it's the people who do their jobs and do them well that make our communities work day in and day out. Perhaps you've wondered about the jobs that create a safe and supportive environment for everyone? Indeed, those “community helpers” are essential roles in our lives, and understanding their contributions fosters a sense of appreciation and connection to the community.

春节将至，南来北往的铁路令无数乘客得以和家人团聚，春运工作可谓重中之重。福州机务段就汇聚了这样一群铁路工作者：火车、动车、高铁驾驶员。当天，在机务段工作人员的引导下，FLIS学子不仅学习了铁路安全的重要性，还走进模拟驾驶室，体验了一把开火车的感觉！

The Chinese New Year is approaching. It is the railroads from the south to the north that enable countless passengers to reunite with their families, so the transportation work during the Spring Festival travel season can be regarded as one of the most important. Fuzhou Locomotive Depot brings together many groups of dedicated railroad workers, including locomotive drivers. On that day, under the guidance of the staff of the Depot, FLIS students not only learned the importance of railroad safety, but also entered the simulated cab to experience the feeling of driving a train!

一步入安全生产调度指挥中心，巨大的显示屏与实时滚动的列车运行动态信息立时给孩子们带来深深震撼，只见智能系统高效分配每一趟列车的运行任务，一切有条不紊。

Upon entering the Traffic Command Center, the children were immediately amazed by the vast display screens showcasing real-time train operation data, only for them to realize the intelligent system efficiently assigns each train to run tasks, all in an orderly manner.

感谢福州机务段领导和团委负责人的安排和关怀，感谢工作人员白忙中抽时间为孩子们答疑解惑，感谢东站铁路派出所为孩子们保驾护航。希望经此活动，小朋友们保护铁路设施、维护交通安全的责任感也能得到激发：毕竟，大家都是社区的一份子，有铁路工作者们的榜样在前，学子应当意识到，每个人都可以对自己的生活和周围的世界产生积极影响。

Thanks to the staff of the Fuzhou Locomotive Depot and the Railway Public Security Bureau for escorting and teaching the FLIS students! It is also hoped that through this activity, the kids’ sense of responsibility to protect railroad facilities and maintain traffic safety will also be inspired: after all, we are all part of the community, and with the good example of railroad workers in front of them, the students should also realize that everyone can have a positive impact on their own lives and the world around them.

■ 由小学生主办的｜小学奥运会！

四年级学子近来也学习了新单元。值得一提的是，他们积极地投入到了新单元的学习之中，甚至亲手操办了一届别开生面的小学奥运会！一起看看四年级Chelsea同学为本次活动撰写的英文介绍吧：

Recently fourth graders studied a new unit. It is worth noting that they have actively engaged in the new unit learning and even organized a unique Primary Olympics themselves! Chelsea, a fourth grader, wrote a short explanation for the event, and the following is from her introduction:

For the last six weeks, our year 4 class has been learning a new unit called Where We Are in Place and Time. The central idea is ideas and actions of the past have created the world we live in today. We made timelines, asked questions, and researched about people who had made a difference in history. Then, we started to explore our line of inquiry about “society and life in ancient and modern times”. We voted about what we are going to learn, and decided to learn about the ancient Olympic Games. 

（过去六周以来，我们四年级学生都在学习新单元，叫做“我们生活的时间和地点”。这个单元的核心内容是，过去的思想和行动塑造了我们当今生活的世界。我们制作了时间线，问了不少问题，还调查了对历史有重大影响的名人。那之后，我们开始探究“古代和现代的社会与生活”。我们对接下来要学习的内容进行了投票，然后决定要学古代奥林匹克运动会相关知识。）

After we picked our topic, we researched about the ancient Olympics, and ancient Greece. To make it more interesting, we made the FLIS Primary Olympic Games. We learned communicating and research skills. We had to manage our teams and sports. We did discus, long jump, javelin, running events, and tug of war. We taught other students how to do the sports, and how it has changed over time. In the end, we had a great time and we learned a lot of things.

（选好主题后，我们对古代奥运会和古希腊进行了一番研究。为了让主题学习更有意思一些，我们想到了举办FLIS小学奥运会的点子。在这个过程中，我们学习了沟通和研究技巧。我们要率领自己的队伍，安排比赛项目：铁饼、跳远、标枪、跑步和拔河比赛。我们把比赛规则教给其他年级的学生，还把每个项目如何随着时间演化的历史一并告知大家。最后，我们玩得很开心，也学到了许多知识。）
