前些日子,福州西湖国际学校公布了“YES! I'm the Author”原创作者活动实体书上架的消息,如今FLIS中小学师生的几部作品已陈列于大堂及图书馆中,供大家翻阅。没想到,近来幼儿园小朋友也纷纷拿起纸笔,迫不及待要加入「作者」的行列啦!

Just a few days ago, Fuzhou Lakeside International School (FLIS) announced the release of the books of the “YES! I'm the Author” activity and now several works of FLIS Primary and MYP teachers and students are on display in the lobby and the library for everyone to peruse.  Unexpectedly, kindergarteners are also picking up pen and paper and can't wait to join the ranks of “authors”!

这一切当然要从图书馆说起。每天,小朋友都会来到图书馆享受阅读时光。在观察孩子阅读的过程中,FLIS幼儿园教师发现,虽然并非所有学子都钟爱阅读,但有些小朋友在做手工、画画时会变得非常专注。由此,老师们想到一个好主意:为何不给孩子多种选择?这样一来,喜欢阅读的小朋友可以尽情沉浸在绘本的世界里,喜欢创作的孩子则可以学着制作一本自己的小书!

It all starts, of course, with the library. All Kindergarten kids visit the library daily to enjoy reading by themselves or with teachers. Observing the kids during that library time, ECE teachers noticed that not everyone would love to sit down with a book and the teachers thought back that some kids were extremely focused when they did crafts or drawing during other lessons. This led to the idea of diversifying the kids’ library time and giving them a choice of either reading or creating books.

于是,教师们将制作迷你绘本的全过程教给学子,从裁纸、创作故事主线等等步骤讲起,一步步带领大家制作一册迷你绘本。活动一经推出立刻大受欢迎!每个小朋友都想试着手作自己的绘本。他们先将自己构思的小故事告诉老师,再由老师帮助誊写到纸上。

ECE teachers introduced the whole process of making a mini picture book to the kids- from folding an A4 paper into a book to creating a storyline and working with its details. It was a hit! All the kids wanted to try making their own picture book. The kids worked on the pictures and told teachers their stories which they helped to write down.

孩子们的创作风格、方式各异。有的小朋友会给绘本增添丰富的细节,妆点以绚丽的色彩;有些孩子则秉持极简主义,图文都相当简约朴素。每个孩子都有独特的故事点子。大部分小朋友喜欢和朋友分享自己创作的故事,大伙儿一起笑作一团,有些孩子笔耕不缀,即使在绘本完工、收录进幼儿园图书馆的“绘本之家(Books Home)”后,仍积极地想要再补充一些细节。还有些小朋友想把迷你绘本带回家,让爸爸妈妈们也瞧一瞧!

Each student had their own approach, some added lots of details and made it very colorful, some kept it minimalistic both in pictures and words. Each had their unique idea for the story. Many loved to share the stories they made with friends and laugh together at the funny moments. Some were eager to add details even after finishing the story and putting it into our “Book Home”. Some wanted to take the books that they made home and share with their parents.

有些小朋友显然已经爱上了同学创作的绘本。大班的Jerry小朋友特别喜欢Sarah创作的《好小好小的葡萄树》,他一读再读!每次读到结尾,「公主吃掉了怪物」,他总是笑得特别开心。

Some kids have their favorite books written by classmates! KB's Jerry is in love with Sarah’s “Little Little Grapes Tree” which he reads repeatedly. The ending, where “the princess ate the monster”, never fails to make him happy and laugh!

一个小小的念头生根发芽,结出了甘美丰硕的果实——如今,托大班小朋友们的福,幼儿园图书馆增加了许多小作者们创作的书籍,藏书数量进一步扩大。FLIS深信应给予每个孩子表达自我、发挥想象力的机会,用这种方式让孩子们爱上阅读与书籍,我们也倍感幸福喜悦!

A small initiative turned into a big project and now we have a great collection of books from two kindergarten classes. FLIS believes that each kid should be given an opportunity to express ideas and use their imagination and we’re so happy to help kids fall in love with reading and creating books!
