Fuzhou Lakeside International School held the second Qu Yuan Chinese Poetry Reading Contest this week! With "summer" as the theme, 20 groups of primary contestants came to the stage fully prepared. Everyone's performance was remarkable!

The contest started with perfect performances from two secondary students: excerpts from "Moonlight over the Lotus Pond" by Lulu, and "A Summer Encounter” by Vivi. These performances set a wonderful example for their primary juniors. Then our primary contestants came to the stage to give their performance. The beautiful Chinese poems were infectious! It was like the audience was able to wander in an ocean of artistic conception and flowery language, which also helped students to get a better understanding of Chinese culture.

The Duanwu Festival, also often known, especially in the West, as the Dragon Boat Festival, is a traditional holiday originating in China, occurring near the summer solstice. The festival now occurs on the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional Chinese calendar (June 7th this year). Since the festival is nearing, we also held a "Happy Dragon Boat Race" game! FLIS art teacher Mr. Jerry M and Mr. Dave made two "Dragon Boats", which were vividly crafted, for use in the game. Each group was comprised of three students. The winner was the team that crossed the finish line first. Students' happy laughter was heard all around the campus! Win or lose, everyone had a great time!
